Earth Day

"On Earth Day, we celebrate all the gifts the world and nature make available to us. We recognize our complete dependence on its bounty. And we acknowledge the need for good stewardship to preserve its fruits for future generations." -John Hoeven

Each year Friends puts together the annual environmental fair commemorating Earth Day.  This event is attended by virtually all school children on St. John as well as many school groups coming over from St. Thomas and focuses on the fields of natural and cultural resources, renewable energy, recycling, reef preservation, and environmental education.

An exciting array of green businesses, organizations and community groups come together to share their solutions for building a greener community in the Virgin Islands through interactive booths with fun, hands-on and kid-friendly activities. Booth exhibits go hand-in-hand with the core environmental science concepts and curriculum, offering a great out-of-the-classroom learning experience for youth.  Presenters have included the University of Virgin Islands VI-ESPCoR, Caribbean Solar Company, Get Trashed St. John, and Island Green Living Association, to name a few.

Students learn about archeology here on St. John, discover local arts and crafts centered on our natural environment, crush recycled cans, learn about alternative energy sources, and help document numerous ways to keep St. John pristine for future generations. A "Litter Stomp" parade, archeological dig demonstration and student preformances are some of the highlights.
