Archeology- Education

Throughout the school year, many of our local Virgin Islands schools and the University, as will as many schools from the states, visit the VI National Park archeology laboratory at Cinnamon Bay. These visits are designed to present the history of the islands through the presentation of archeological artifacts recovered as a result of the Parks on going cultural resource program. By using these visual tools, the prehistory and history of the island’s inhabitants unfolds through time, and the reason for the petroglyphs and our multicultural heritage is revealed.

Teachers can apply for a visit and lecture from the Park’s archeologist through the Park’s educational program (funding for field trips is supported by the Friends). We hope that in the near future this educational program will grow and become a much greater teacher tool with the installation of the museum exhibits in this archeological laboratory setting.
