Update from the Dig at Cinnamon

August 2001

The University of Southern Maine worked with us at Cinnamon Bay from July 24 to Aug. 13.  Fifteen students along with Dr. Dave Davis, Dr. Nathan Hamilton, and Dr. Davis's wife Sally all worked hard to make this year's program a success. Their donation to the project brought in many volunteers at the same time accomplishing project goals. The main focus during their stay was to conduct testing out from the prehistoric area that has been identified as a Taino "Caney" (their temple or church as described by Columbus).  This testing will help us to gain a greater understanding of the overall village dynamics, particularly various activity areas.

No they are not archeologists gone ostrich; the deep intact deposits at Cinnamon made subsurface testing an exercise in stretching to recover the data U. of So. Maine students emulating ostriches?
